I have done ASP(without ADO.NET) by my own but now as Microsoft is making programmers life much easier I am afraid in future ASP programmer will get salary and most importantly "satisfaction". I agree you sir that fallowing herd is not right without knowing where the herd is going . That is why I am interested in learning php language . But switched to PHP because I had to code for clients who were on LAMP. And I am *really* glad I stuck with it. I agree with you there. You can't choose a language just because your friends are using it. You need to know it's strength compared to other languages.
